U.S. Health Care is Crisis Care!

Americans are finally waking up to the fact that the present health care system is not working for them. Less coverage is being offered by insurance firms and what is covered does not fulfill the needs of the chronically ill patient. Since “chronic illness” without a specific diagnosis is becoming more common, these individuals are stuck in limbo after visiting 10-20 physicians with no definitive answer to their symptoms. As we now know a patient’s symptoms, from a chronic illness perspective, are the last to show after years of the body’s inability to no longer compensate. The health care providers I work with as well as scientists and geneticists understand that environmental toxic loads are creating illnesses that are difficult to track by typical blood panels. Autoimmune illness not autoimmune disease per se effects over 200 million Americans has multiple causes that allopathic medicine is unprepared to deal with. The title in and of itself is as confusing to understand as it is to treat. Because of the assault by numerous environmental toxins along with the body’s inability to detoxify because of the lack of proper nutrients, creates a perfect storm for illness to set in. Certain nutrients must be available on demand and available daily for the Liver and Kidneys to filter these toxic loads. Specific genetic mutations add to this picture but can be taken care of by supporting the areas of detoxification properly.
At least there is a partial answer to this dilemma. We can always start with our poor habits that contribute to multiple symptoms that the average physician is not trained to understand. Basic biochemistry and functional medicine understands the biological diversity of every individual. All aspects of one’s life and environment must be taken into account to subdue confusing symptoms and a confused neuro-endocrine-immune relationship. Often blood panels look normal yet the patient is suffering. There are numerous reasons for this. The Neuro (brain and nervous system) Endocrine (hormonal system) Immune (defense system) must work together for proper communication and function. When multiple systems breakdown, communication is inhibited and a myriad of symptoms occur which no simple pill can fix. The ECM (extracellular matrix) which is the fluid medium that supports all cells, is the most important part of our physiology. Proper and specific protocols are needed to address this system. Truly, the cells are nothing without the environment in which they exist, which is the ECM. This is where most toxic loads are found and must be eliminated. I will be talking about the ECM in further articles, but it is the main player which allows nutrients into our cells and where toxins are dumped out of the cells interior into the ECM and eliminated. Only certain nutrients, drainage remedies can be used to stabilize its function and detoxification ability. This fluid medium touches every cell and tissue in our body. The health of the ECM system is paramount for a healthy recovery from disease. Along with proper lifestyle habits, supporting organs of detoxification (liver, bowel, kidneys and lymphatics/the lymphatic tissue is bound within the ECM) along with the ECM assures that recovery will occur. All health organizations including the NIH (National Institute of Health) stresses lifestyle changes with proper diet, exercise as the first step to health. The average time of three to four minutes with a patient is not enough time for a complete history on a suffering patient who has had multiple years of uncontrolled symptoms which have not been treated or guided in correct lifestyle habits. A thorough history looking at all aspects of a patient’s habits need to be evaluated carefully so proper changes in diet and lifestyle, their environment can be made for recovery to occur. The most important step is to stress to the patient what their role is and their responsibility to follow guidelines which will allow for recovery. As daunting as it may seem you must start somewhere and starting with one’s basic habits is the first step. As prescribed in my Health and Lifestyle program, one must start with proper dietary habits eliminating what is no longer supporting health and adding in what is needed for recovery. Fast food, high sugar drinks, pesticide induced food, stress, poor sleeping habits, alcohol consumption and lack of exercise (80 million Americans do not exercise) is a fast track to chronic disease. We cannot blame a physician or any healthcare provider for improper treatment if the patient refuses to change their destructive habits. Recovery starts at home. Prevention is key to making sure disease does not occur in the first place. With those thoughts in place recovery is surely possible.
