Mental Emotional and Spiritual Health: Are We There Yet!

What do these words even mean? They encompass so many different meanings to different individuals. From a religious point of view each sect has different ideas about what these words mean. But do we really need their influence to direct us on a spiritual path, or do we instinctively know what that path is and what it should be for each one of us. Since each religious institution has its own sectarian views that will ultimately affect how we view ourselves and our life circumstances, we need to evaluate with our logical minds what their belief systems entail. History has shown us how wrong or hypocritical some of these institutions have been when it comes to their teachings and guidance which I don’t need to go into. Do we really need these institutions to tell us what is right or do we already know the right way to live if we put aside our addictions for material possessions useless thought processes and take a deeper look at ourselves? After all isn’t that why we are here in the first place. You cannot go to church or synagogue, or ashram or any holy place for that matter on any given day to pray or meditate then abuse your workers or family members the following day. It’s obvious to me this does not correlate with any spiritual pursuit, because how we treat others is a reflection on what we believe about ourselves. Perhaps that is why so many spiritual leaders abuse themselves, others and continue certain addictive practices covertly which are obviously outside their original teachings. Some go one step further and change teachings according to their own folly or for their own selfish reasons. So how do we know what is a “right” practice for ourselves. I can only reiterate from my own experiences that a healthy physiology creates a healthy mental outlook. Our brain will interpret our environmental experiences accordingly to how healthy our filter (brain) is functioning. A healthy brain must be front and center so we can interpret clearly. But this is only part of the picture. The HEART has clusters of cells like what is found in the brain and the heart ultimately guides us accordingly. Certain energies from the heart have been gauged to extend 8 feet from our bodies. It is a powerful organ which has been written about and mythologized in many texts throughout history. Is it no wonder that heart “disease” is the number one killer of Americans in the United States. Is it no wonder that the heart can still beat without input from the brain. Is it no wonder that all spiritual conclusions come back to the hearts interpretation first then reinterpreted by our brain if it is healthy enough to listen. So is it no wonder that heart disease and accompanying brain degeneration, Dementia, Alzheimer’s, ADD, the list and labels which are becoming endless are occurring to a society that has lost their connection to the heart. Most health care professionals will chalk it up to numerous theories which may or may not be unfounded, concerning why these disease processes are occurring seemingly out of our control. But what has set the stage for these phenomena to take hold and create the disease itself? Whatever genetic or epigenetic influences predisposed us to these diseases, our mental, emotional spiritual HEALTH will be determined by how we treat ourselves and others daily. If we are clear enough and healthy enough to LISTEN to our heart which is the seat of compassion and a birth right, then it obviously will show us the right path. Then perhaps listening to others to show us the way to spiritual health will hold less importance. All societies that have been found to have much less material possessions in different areas of the world then the United States, have healthier and longer lifespans and less disease than Americans. What has been found within these communal groups is they put their importance on living simply, taking care of family and their communities, especially when in need expecting nothing in return. They have hardly any serious diseases that we have here in the states and much less importance is put upon owning. We see this good will as well in Americans when a crisis occurs but less so on a continual daily basis when there is no crisis. We have that in us. The need to give and help others. We just need to bring it into our daily life. Obviously, this is food for thought for the American culture at large. But as economies and technology which is occurring at a rapid pace creates stress and anxiety on a large scale, we will be forced to move towards what is truly important. So, Mental, Emotional Spiritual health? Perhaps we need to take a careful look at who is telling us what instead of trusting what we instinctively already know. Simply close your eyes take a breath concentrate on your heart, listen to your heart beat and clear your mind. Perhaps the answer is already there if we listen. Spiritual health? A difficult road to be sure but one worth pursuing for the health of ourselves the people we care about the human family and the planet.
